Strategies to Reduce Stress

(there is no stress in the present)

1. Avoid people who irritate, demean, or belittle you. Surround yourself with people who are positive, optimistic, and supportive.

2. Encourage yourself with self talk that is positive, realistic, and reasonable.

3. Repeat an affirmation or coping mantra that is soothing and meaningful for you. Go slowly, and all good things will come to you.

4. Practise speaking assertively with co-workers, classmates, and family. Stay out of triangles.

5. Review your small successes.

6. Pay attention to self-care:

  • Sleep 9 hours
  • Activity - pleasant, moderate
  • Eating - regularly, nutritionally
  • Friends - support, fun

7. Give in occasionally. Don't compete unnecessarily.

8. Plan for leisure time.
