Practice Multiple Choice Test Feedback: Question 5
|
You are taking a math course, and the exams are in multiple
choice format. They require you to solve problems, then pick the
closest answer from the alternatives given. To study effectively,
you should
(a) memorize formulae, and practice recognizing them. Pay
particular attention to the similarities and differences among
them.
(b) go over your notes and the text carefully
(c) practice doing representative problems until you can do them
quickly and accurately
(d) practice estimating answers to representative problems
The answer is (c). You would prepare for a multiple choice exam
that requires you to solve problems in the same way as you
normally would prepare for any exam that requires you to solve
problems. The format makes no difference (although you would want
to make sure that you could pick the closest alternative quickly
and accurately). The key here, as with any sort of studying, is
actively practicing what you will have to do on the exam. All
other choices are off-target.
Level of learning: Application. You are
given a novel instance, and required to respond according to
rules you have learned.
