Grief Support

Exploring the Nature of Grief & Loss for UVic Students

This grief support group will meet regularly to help individuals process their experience of loss.

We will offer a safe, supportive environment for solitude, reflection and discussion.

Some of the session will involve walking in nature on campus.

This is an open group.  Attending regularly is beneficial but not required.

A brief, private meeting with a counsellor may be helpful before joining this group.  This meeting will help to make sure this group is appropriate for you and it will help you to feel welcome and well prepared to meet the other members.

Weekly sessions (1 hour and 20 minutes) throughout the term.

Grief Support Group

The death of a loved one can be overwhelming. Loss is a universal event yet grief is an individual experience.

The purpose of this group is to explore the role grief plays in our healing process. Through the sharing of experiences in a caring, supportive and respectful environment, this group will explore issues related to adjusting to a life without that person.

The goal of this group is to better understand our individual experience of grief by learning how others cope with painful times.

The specific format will be determined by group members, but potential topics include: - Coping strategies and resources - Normal grief reactions - Different kinds of loss - Anniversaries - Culture, rituals and ceremonies - How to ask for support - How does this experience change who I am?
