Exam Preparation & Writing Workshop

This 1-session workshop addresses issues related to doing well on examinations. The focus of the workshop is on identifying common problems that impact upon learning and examination performance. Specific problems are discussed, and strategies to avoid or overcome problems are presented.

Common Exam Problems

  1. Misinterpreting the content that will be examined (coverage)
  2. Misinterpreting the level of learning required on the exam
  3. Misinterpreting the learning channels required on the exam
  4. Use of passive rather than active learning strategies
  5. Insufficient practice, mastery and fluency
  6. Misinterpreting the exam questions (the #1 reason that professors give for poor student performance)
  7. Too much anxiety

The workshop will highlight common pitfalls in these seven problem areas and describe specific techniques that the university student can use to avoid the problems and to be successful.

The workshop is one and a half hours long, and is free. Handouts will be provided.
