Dealing with Traumatic Events

Events such as September 11, 2001 left people in a state of shock and disbelief. What is a normal reaction to such tragic and horrible events? How can one cope? What services are available for UVic students, faculty and staff? This page provides you with links to information that we believe can help you to answer these questions. Several of the links below are from the Counseling Center at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. and professional organizations. What services are available to UVic students, faculty and staff?

  • Individual Counselling
    As a UVic student, you may wish to speak with one of our UVic Counsellors. To do so, either call to make an appointment (250-721-8341), or come to the Counselling Services (University Centre, 2nd floor). We have drop-in sessions available, Monday through Friday; call us at 8:30am to secure one of these. If you feel that it is urgent, don't hesitate to say so to the receptionist. As always, counselling is confidential and free.

  • Talk with a Chaplain
    You may wish to speak with one of our UVic Chaplains. To do so, either call to make an appointment (250-721-8338) or come to the Multifaith Chaplaincy Services (Campus Services Building).
