Confidential counselling is available to currently enrolled degree program University of Victoria students.
We offer several types of individual counselling or appointments to best serve students.
We provide same day "Urgent" appointments every day and we see students for "Check-ins" (15-20 minute triage sessions) a few times per week. We open up "No-shows" after waiting for 10 minutes and free up cancellations everyday for students who can wait. We do ask about urgency and must respond on that basis. If you think your concerns are urgent, please let us know.
Group counselling is a popular option at our centre. Many of these are for students with career related concerns, for anxiety and depression. There are also some other resources on campus that you can utilize for some concerns: UVic Health Services, Student Transition Services, Program Advisors, Co-op and Career Services, Multifaith Services, Peer Helping, and many more.
We have 9 counsellors for the large population of undergraduate and graduate students at UVic and cannot readily refer out to mental health services in Greater Victoria due to their very limited capacity.
Recently we developed an online list of counsellors and psychologists in the community who will see students on a sliding fee scale. Some of these therapists are very familiar with the university student population and the work we do at Counselling Services. Check the External Therapist Referral List.
